HSC Middle School Students Aid Maude Barlow in Public Presentation
“The Great Lakes could be bone dry in 80 years,” said Maude Barlow in an address to the public on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the Hamilton First Unitarian Church. Barlow has undertaken a two-week Ontario tour to gather support for a proposal to have the watershed protected as a public trust.
More than 300 people came out to hear her speak. Also appealing at the event was Mark Mattson, president of Lake Ontario Waterkeeper, Lynda Lukasik, executive director from Environment and HSC Grade 8 students Sinclair Jeejeebhoy and Hamzah Khan. The duo teamed up with Barlow last fall to highlight the importance of water to the students and staff on our campus. Since then, HSC has banned plastic water bottles.
