Hillfield Strathallan College is a co-educational, independent day school that is well-known for its excellence in education. For more than a century, we have been educating and developing the talents of students from Hamilton, as well as the broader “Golden Horseshoe” area. HSC graduates are competent, confident and ready to meet the challenges of the world around them. We believe in helping students realize their full potential, enabling them to move forward in their post-secondary studies with confidence.
1. SENIOR SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS
Senior School Scholarships are offered to current Grade 8 students at HSC entering the Senior School and to incoming Senior School students entering Grades 9 through 11, who are new to HSC. All new candidates must submit a regular Application for Admission, as well as the completed Scholarship Application(s).
The successful recipients will be students who embody the College’s Mission, Vision and Values, most notably a commitment to “academic excellence” and “a broad approach to education” that includes academics, the arts, athletics, community service and leadership opportunities.
Consequently, the scholarship awards are based on a variety of factors, including academic achievement in the scholarship examinations, previous academic performance and a foundation of academic success as demonstrated through report cards, and an ability and willingness to contribute to the day-to-day life of the College. A Selection Committee established and chaired by the Director of Admissions will review applications and prepare a short list of applicants to interview.
Our Senior School Scholarship program includes both primary scholarships ($5,000.00 to $10,000.00) and secondary scholarships (up to $5,000.00).
2. ALUMNI ASSOCIATION’S LEADERSHIP AWARD
This scholarship, supported by the Alumni Association, is for one Grade 9 external or internal recipient who embodies the College’s Mission, Vision and Values, most notably through outstanding leadership potential.
This scholarship is valued at 50% tuition for up to four years.
All applicants must complete HSC scholarship testing and the required application forms. A Selection Committee established and chaired by the Director of Admissions or another individual as designated by the Head of College, will review applications and prepare a short list of applicants to interview.
Expectations of the recipient include:
- Providing leadership to the HSC community
- Fulfilling a minimum of 10 volunteer hours of service to the Alumni Association
- Participating in an annual leadership meeting with College and Alumni Association representatives
- Remaining in good academic standing and fully involved in the life of the College
3. ALUMNI ASSOCIATION’S FAMILY AWARD
For an external or internal student successfully entering Grade 9.
This one time award in the amount of $500 will be given to any child or grandchild of an alumnus to celebrate the family link to the college, who has completed the appropriate application form. d An alumnus will be defined as any student who fulfilled a minimum of one year at HSC.
Internal recipients will be recognized during Grade 8 graduation. All candidates will receive their award by reimbursement through the Finance office upon the September tuition of the recipient’s Grade 9 year.
Students may apply for both a Senior School Scholarship and the Student Leadership Award, but may receive only one award. The Alumni Family Award may be received in conjunction with another Scholarship.
Students who have received a Senior School Scholarship or Student Leadership Award and who maintain their academic standing and are fully involved in the life of the College, will continue to receive their award in each year they attend the College. The student who receives the Alumni-sponsored Student Leadership Award will also be expected to participate in various Alumni events throughout the year.
