Into the Future
The secondary school years are a time for young adults to open their
minds to the divergent possibilities of the global community and to
begin to accept greater ownership for the educational pathways that
will lead them into their futures.
Our tight knit faculty and support services staff make sure our
students feel welcomed as part of the HSC community while ensuring
each student receives the individualized support and guidance
required to maximize scholastic success. We offer a challenging and
engaging academic program that meets and exceeds the requirements
of Ontario ‘s Ministry of Education.
The Senior School offers a full range of university preparatory courses
augmented by extended curricular offerings through programs such
as Advanced Placement, co-curricular trips and events, science fairs,
math contests and the Grade 9/10 Delta math program.
Operating under the philosophy that balance is essential in education
and understanding that students need to be exposed to a variety of different experiences in order to realize their full potential, the
extracurricular programs available to our students are varied and
involvement is an expectation.
Advanced Placement - Students Who Excel
Offered through the CollegeBoard in the USA that also administers
PSAT and SAT testing, the Advanced Placement is recognized
internationally as an academically enriched program for motivated
students in their final year of secondary school. In fact, this is the
only university level credit program and is more widely accepted than
the IB program.
Helping to prepare students for the rigours of university, AP
courses enhance their confidence and boost academic interest.
HSC began offering AP courses in 2002 and since then our
students have consistently scored well above both national and
international averages.
What Makes Us Exceptional
- With a student population of approximately 400
students, the Senior School offers programmatic
opportunities and benefits of a large school while
maintaining a “small school feeling”.
- The academic program is enriching, varied and
designed to provide students with a wide range of
learning opportunities in a multitude of disciplines.
A broad selection of courses allows students to
design an academic program that is tailored to their
interests and geared towards preparing them for postsecondary
study.
- We offer over 90 credit courses that not only
meet, but exceed, the expectations outlined by the
Ontario Ministry of Education. Our program offers
opportunities for our students to reach beyond
base provincial curriculum both within and outside
of the classroom.
- Participation in the Senior School’s many
co-curricular and extracurricular programs is an
essential part of a student’s development and is
an expectation in Senior School. Our students are
challenged to extend themselves by developing their
skills and leadership talents.
- The Senior School actively tries to promote and foster
a school culture that makes the students, staff and
faculty feel though they are a recognized and valued
member of a community. Students are treated as
individuals and respected for their differences and
unique talents.
- A well-planned and purposefully designed Tutorial
Leader System ensures that every Senior School
student has a teacher that he or she will be working
with, outside of the classroom, in an advisory fashion
over the course of the academic year.
