It’s time for the busy bees to start collecting for the Penny Sale
Penny Sale is a success BEEcause of the wonderful new items that parents donate. If you are not sure what to purchase, then think like a child when you enter a store! The fairy costume that an adult might consider frivolous is something that your inner child knows you would love…same goes for stuffed animals, water canons, and sparkly purses. Thinking like a teenager works too. They love sports paraphernalia, grooming items, and DVDs.
This year we are opening the Penny Sale to adult items, and would welcome donations that children might give as gifts to a parent, grandparent, or teacher.
All Penny Sale donations are eligible for a charitable donation receipt. Attach your original receipt to the Donation Form, available in an electronic copy at www.hsc.on.cs/fairday. Please deliver the completed form to the Main Office, marked Fair Day.

Campaign to Control Cancer (C2CC) ~ More Control…Less Cancer
HSC Alumns, Eamonn O’Connell ‘01 and Sarah Moyal ’03, are busy working with the Campaign to Control Cancer (C2CC), which is a Canadian coalition of more than 70 cancer organizations dedicated to cutting cancer down to size through knowledge, change and action. C2CC’s mission – more control…less cancer.
Recently a new collaborative project between C2CC, the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) and the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) was launched. Through these partnerships a volunteer-led group was formed called Community Conversations on Cancer Control. Its aim is to encourage conversations in homes, businesses, schools, hospitals, places of worship, community centers and online. The dialogue lasts approximately 90 minutes with a focus on issues relating to cancer and its personal affects on each individual involved.
The reports from the Community Conversations are compiled by a team of thought leaders from Duke University’s Centre for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (“CASE”) and shared with global leaders as they prepare for the Lance Armstrong Foundation LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Summit in Dublin, August 24-26, 2009 and in Ottawa, September 23-26, 2009.
Currently more than 260 hosts have registered in over 30 countries. If you wish to form your own Community Conversation group, the deadline is Friday, May 15, 2009. Please visit the C2CC website for more information www.controlcancer.ca/gopublic.
