HSC receives largest gift in
Canadian Independent School history!

Gary W. DeGroote '74, Michael G. DeGroote '09 & Devin DeGroote '04

On June 22nd, 2009 Hillfield Strathallan College made history in Canada by announcing the largest single gift ever made to an Independent School.  Philanthropist and Industrialist, Mr. Michael G. DeGroote, donated an unprecedented $10,500,000 to the Transformation HSC project, which will build a new senior school and College-wide athletic facility on our campus.  The new school will be named "The Michael G. DeGroote Senior School", and it is hoped that construction will begin in the coming academic year.

On June 20th at the Senior Closing Ceremonies Mr. DeGroote was inducted as an honourary member of the leaving class of 2009.  The DeGroote family connections to HSC go back more than 40 years. Mr. DeGroote now joins his four children as an alumnus of Hillfield Strathallan College; five of his grandchildren are also alumni, and one of his granddaughters is a current student.

Alumni Excellence: Honouring Mr. Ron Bremner ’67

HSC is proud to announce that the 2009-2010 Alumni Award of Distinction Recipient is Mr. Ron Bremner '67.

The HSC Alumni Award of Distinction Program celebrates the achievements of Alumni in our community who have lived the aspirations of the Hillfield Strathallan College Vision, and have developed into global citizens who have bettered the world around them. A formal selection committee consisting of alumni, staff and community leaders were given the difficult task of selecting this year’s recipient from the excellent nominees.

Mr. Bremner will be honoured on Friday, September 18th, 2009 as he participates in the HSC Prefect Installation.  He will address the Senior School as a leader who will inspire our next generation.  A formal invitation to Alumni to participate in this service will follow.

A scholarship of up to $4,000 will be created in Mr. Bremner’s name, which will be presented to a deserving graduating student in 2010.
