HSC community answers the call for Haiti Earthquake Relief
On Thursday, January 21, the students, faculty and staff of Hillfield Strathallan College joined together in a College-wide dress-down day in support of disaster relief in Haiti. The HSC community was encouraged to wear red and blue, the colours of Haiti, to show support and solidarity. Dr. Matthews spoke to the student body, as well as faculty and staff, in chapel about the unfolding catastrophe in Haiti and issued a challenge to raise $3,000 in support of relief efforts there.
The HSC community raised over $32,000, exceeding expectations by more than ten times! All of the money raised has been donated to the Canadian Red Cross Haiti Earthquake Fund. Elaine Wilson, Manager, Home Support Services, Canadian Red Cross commented “The response from the students, parents and faculty of Hillfield Strathallan College is overwhelming and reflects their concern for the people of Haiti. The funds will be used to support emergency relief efforts such as providing medical support, clean water, food and shelter. It will also be used to address the longer-term needs of affected communities as we begin to help them rebuild and recover. Thank you so much for responding to the call for action. Well done!” READ MORE

HSC honours Alumni as “Builders”
One of the highest honours bestowed upon members of the HSC community is the title of Builder. As outlined in College Policy, Builders are individuals "who have made a sustained contribution to the College over time," and "who have played major roles in the development of the College and its predecessors." Every two years up to six new Builders are selected by an esteemed selection committee of current Builders. We are proud to celebrate all of the new Builders to be inducted at the Builders' Dinner on April 27, 2010 five of whom are Alumni:
Mr. John Beaver (Retired Faculty)
Mrs. Dawn Eveley '79 (Alumnus and Current Parent)
Mr. William (Bill) E. Holton '58 (Alumnus and Former Parent)
Mrs. Judith King-Siganski '62 (Alumnus)
Mr. Jeff Paikin '80 (Alumnus and Current Parent)
Mr. John Simpson '75 (Alumnus and Former Parent)
As well, Mr. Peter Annable, who was selected in 2008, will be honoured at this year's dinner as he was unable to attend two years ago.
The induction of these new Builders will take place in Lawson Hall, and will be preceded by a cocktail reception. Invitations and ticket details will be communicated in the near future, but should you wish to reserve seats or a table in the meantime, please contact Laurie Lewis at 905-389-1367, ext. 161 or lewis@hsc.on.ca.

HSC Senior students work to support the Colin B. Glassco Charitable Foundation

The Colin B. Glassco Charitable Foundation for Children founded by Alumnus Colin B. Glassco (Class of ’61) funds philanthropic projects throughout the country of Zambia. In the process of building wells, schools, orphanages, and medical clinics the Foundation has provided safe, progressive, and sustainable living conditions for thousands of Zambians. The Foundation is particularly unique because 100% of any donation goes directly to the people, with no administrative dividend.
The HSC Senior School fundraising group has raised funds for the construction of a well, and has provided school supplies for the schools throughout the Gwembe Valley. Our largest initiative to date has been to fund breakfast every day for the 118 orphans living at the Chishawasha orphanage. We need your support to achieve our goal again!
