The HSC Homecoming Community Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 2, 2010. Once again Alumni have been challenged by the Senior Basketball and Senior Soccer teams to compete in special games. Interested? Please contact the Alumni Office at 905-389-1367, ext. 102 and we will place you in contact with the Alumni Team Captains.
The Welcome Back Dinner hosted in the evening is home to HSC’s annual Alumni Class Reunions. All Alumni are encouraged to attend and share in the festivities. This year we will be honouring class years ending in "0" and "5".

Dr. Tom Matthews, Honourary Alumnus 2010
At Senior School Closing Ceremonies and Graduation on June 19, Dr. Jennifer Everson, Chair of the HSC Board of Governors announced that departing Headmaster Dr. Tom Matthews was being made an Honourary Graduate of Hillfield Strathallan College, along with the Class of 2010. In addition, the Board were unanimous in their decision to also name the Administration Wing in the new Michael G. DeGroote Senior School, the “Dr. Tom Matthews Wing.” Construction on the new Senior School and College-wide Community & Athletic Complex is scheduled to begin by April 2011, with an opening planned for the Fall of 2012. At a farewell dinner on June 23, Dr. Matthews’ eldest son, Calum ’09, delivered an emotional and heartfelt message to the HSC community on behalf of his father.

Alumni Excellence: Honouring Mr. Bob Young '73
HSC is proud to announce that the 2010-2011 Alumni Award of Distinction Recipient is Mr. Robert Young ’73.
Robert "Bob" Young is an entrepreneur most known for co-founding Red Hat, the open source software company that gives hardware and software vendors a standard platform on which to certify their technology. In 2003 Bob Young purchased the Hamilton Ti-Cats, much to the excitement of Hamilton Fans. Currently, Bob is the founder and CEO of Lulu.com, a premiere international marketplace for new digital content on the Internet.
The HSC Alumni Award of Distinction Program celebrates the achievements of Alumni in our community who have lived the aspirations of the Hillfield Strathallan College Vision, and have developed into global citizens who have bettered the world around them. A formal selection committee consisting of alumni, staff and community leaders were given the difficult task of selecting this year’s recipient from the excellent nominees.
Mr. Young will be honoured on Friday, September 17, 2010 as he participates in the HSC Prefect Installation. He will address the Senior School as a leader who will inspire our next generation. A formal invitation to Alumni to participate in this service will follow.
A scholarship of up to $4,000 will be created in Mr. Young’s name, which will be presented to a deserving graduating student in 2010.

Hall of Excellence Inductees Announced
The HSC Alumni Hall of Excellence selection committee is pleased to announce three new inductees in 2010. The Honourable Justice Randall Scott Echlin ’69, Mr. William J. (Bill) Young ’72 and Ms. Jane A. Gowing '81.
The Alumni Hall of Excellence celebrates alumni who embody and promote the ideals of the College. By honouring this distinguished group the College continues its tradition of inspiring others through the legacy of alumni who have come before them.

HSC Academic Year Closing Events
The 2009/10 academic year drew to a close with the Headmaster’s Dinner held in recognition of this year’s staff and faculty retirees, Marv Curry, Carol-Ann McNeil, Claudia Stockdale and Nancy Wands; the event also thanks all faculty and staff of HSC for their dedication and commitment throughout the previous academic year. This year we also bid the Matthews’ Family a fond farewell as they head west to their new school. This special evening was marked by heartfelt speeches honouring the retirees and Dr. Matthews. Calum Matthews ’09 delivered a moving address on behalf of his father, Tom. The evening concluded with the official unveiling of Dr. Matthews’ portrait which will be installed in Lawson Hall with the other Headmasters and Headmistresses.

14th Annual HSC Golf Classic
Despite a few challenges from Mother Nature, the 14th Annual HSC Golf Classic in support of the College’s Scholarships and Awards program was a tremendous success. The day would not have been possible without the many key sponsors, among them our Platinum Sponsor, Jigsaw Advertising, our Gold Sponsor, Cooper Construction, our Silver Sponsor, Moriyama & Teshima Architects, our Car Sponsor, Mercedes-Benz of Burlington and our Lunch Sponsor, Michelangelo Event Venue & Conference Center. Many new details were added to this year’s tournament, including a team challenge consisting of student volunteers on each hole who greeted golfers with HSC trivia questions. There were also 18 ‘hole experiences,’ including games, prizes, tastings, and gifts. The new dinner format ensured the day was wrapped up quickly, but in a most relaxed and enjoyable way.

Excelsior Annual Giving Campaign
Fantastic news! Our Learning to Lead Excelsior Annual Giving Campaign met its year-end goal to match last year’s campaign! Thank you!
Because of the extraordinary generosity of our HSC community our annual campaign has yet again been another tremendous success. Your generous support will fund learning in the classrooms, in the theatre, the music and arts studios, in the gyms and on the sports fields. The Excelsior Annual Giving Campaign has a direct impact on every area of College life and supports our greatest priority – our students.
