To Serve is to Lead 2010-11 Prefect Installation

On Friday, September 17, 2010, students participated in the College’s annual Prefect Installation Chapel Service, and fourteen Grade 12 students received their Prefect pins and ties.

In his address, Mr. Ayotte, Head of College focused on the Servant-Leader.  The phrase ‘Servant Leadership’ was first coined by Robert K. Greenleaf in his essay “The Servant as Leader” that he published in the early seventies. In the essay, he said: “The servant-leader is servant first…It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first. Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead.”

Participating in the installation of the College Prefects was Mr. Bob Young ’72, the recipient of this year’s Alumni Award of Distinction.

Following the Prefect Installation Chapel Service, Mr. Young spoke to the Senior Students in the Artsplex theatre.  Mr. Young encouraged them to “embrace your failures, because in failing you learn something.”

Congratulations to our 2010-2011 Head Boy, Head Girl and our new Prefects.
