Budding artist, HSC Grade 1 student Lillian Guy, places second in the Raptorfest Art Contest

On April 25, 2009 at Raptorfest, ribbons and prizes were handed out to the top three students in each age category in the inaugural Raptorfest Art Contest. The organizers had a tough chore choosing from more than 300 entries submitted by students in Kindergarten to Grade 8.

Junior School Grade 1 student Lillian Guy was awarded second place for her painting depicting hawks in a natural habitat.

The purpose of the art contest, and a writing contest also held by the organizers, is to promote awareness of the spring hawk migration at Beamer Memorial Conservation Area to the younger generation.
Grimsby is known as an important birding area, and the organizers of the annual event wanted to teach youth the importance of the birds and the statistics gathered each year during the hawk watch event.
The event included live bird demonstrations, nature displays, hawk identification presentations and photo opportunities.

Congratulations Lillian.
