HSC musicians shine at Chicago Heritage Music Festival

The HSC Senior Jazz Ensemble, Wind Symphony and Vocal Ensemble traveled to Chicago April 29-May 2 to participate in the Chicago Heritage Music Festival.  The HSC musicians, along with directors Mr. Gaumond and Dr. Burton, and chaperones Ms. Mulvey, Ms. Kavander and Mr. Peat, experienced a busy but rewarding taste of Chicago.

The HSC musicians performed confidently and musically.  Mr. Gaumond’s Senior Jazz Ensemble started off the festival, impressing the three adjudicators with their energy, style and soloists.  They received a Gold award for their performance. Twenty minutes later the HSC Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. Burton, gave a valiant performance and received a Silver award from the adjudicators.

A highlight of the festival was the performance of the HSC Vocal Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Burton.  The group sang beautifully, featuring soloists Alexandra Bain, and Elise Naccarato.  The Vocal Ensemble received a Gold award for their performance, and were also invited to perform in the American High School Honours Performing Series at Carnegie Hall in New York City, which would take place in June, 2011.

Four HSC musicans were recognized as outstanding soloists in the festival: Michael Gnocato, Julia Falco, Alexandra Bain and Elise Naccarato.  HSC also was awarded the trophy for top school at the festival.

Congratulations to all of the HSC musicians!
