HSC Homecoming – Saturday, October 3, 2009
This year’s Homecoming was by far the most polished Homecoming Celebration around! The beautiful marquee tent filled with House colours greeted each guest as they drove through our main gates. Inside the tent everyone enjoyed a selection of continental snacks and a premium lunch, our guests were wowed!
The Houses did an exceptional job this year with their fundraising, initiatives included a car wash, bake sale, critter corner, bouncy castle and an HSC favourite, a dunk tank.
The games were fantastic, overseen by Co-Directors of Athletics, Sylvia Griffin and Mike Steele. It was a beautiful day for outdoor sports, Mother Nature was kind and did not unleash a torrent until after the outdoor games were complete. The Senior School teams were very successful. Winners against Appleby included, Senior and Junior Girls’ Basketball, Junior Boys’ Volleyball, Junior Boys’ Soccer. The DII Girls’ Field Hockey team had a 1 -1 draw with Appleby. The Alumni Soccer Team defeated the present Senior Boys’ team to take the first ever Alumni Soccer Trophy. The Alumni Basketball game with alumni and present players on mixed teams provided an exciting game with the White squad winning the gold medals. The coaches were exceptional, and we would like to thank them for their commitment to their teams and for helping to make HSC’s Homecoming a resounding success.
The Middle School and Early Education results were equally outstanding, with the boys winning all but one tied game in soccer and the girls winning their game. The Junior Girls’ Basketball finished the day with an 1-1 split and won in Field Hockey. The boys had their only loss in Volleyball. Congratulations once again to all of our athletes!
The Alumni Welcome Back Dinner was hosted in Lawson Hall bringing home over 160 alumni, faculty and retired faculty who delighted in connecting with friends.
The evening entertainment was magic... literally, beginning with Mayson our Grade 10 resident magician and stand-up comedian, who inspired belly laughs from the audience. Mr. Gregory Burton and The Strathallan Singers, Caitlin Comeau-Jarvis, Natalie Sagar andAlexandra Bain followed, engaging everyone with their majestic sound and clever song selections which spanned the generations.
Homecoming 2009 was truly a success, one that would not have been made possible without the support of the sponsors, donors, volunteers, committee members, coaches, and staff. Together they help create an outstanding day for everyone.
Special thanks to Nick and Dawn Eveley of Eveley International for sponsoring the Homecoming Day, including our marquee tent; Mr. Jim Faulkner of Heritage Foods for his lunch donation and Mr. Gary Valeri for his donation of Tim Hortons offerings.
We look forward to seeing everyone at Homecoming 2010! |
