Boat Naming Ceremony

The College is pleased to announce the official naming of four of its rowing boats at a recent ceremony at Leander Boat Club. A large crowd of supporters attended the ceremony, where a total of nine boats were unveiled and christened, all of which will go on to be used for many years to come by the competitive High School rowing program in our area. Bishop Tonnos High School and Westdale Secondary School also participated in the ceremony.

The HSC rowing program has been a mainstay of the College’s athletic program for many decades, involving very committed students and coaches to its rigorous early morning year-round training program.  The College has had a valued partnership with the Leander Boat Club to help facilitate the program, and athletes compete locally and regionally through the program.

A coxed-four was named in memory of Vincent Fazari ’01. Vincent, an enthusiastic part of the HSC rowing team, died in 2004. His brother, Patrick christened the boat. A double was named ‘Jackson-Stocks’ in thanks for the  support HSC Rowing received from former parents Mr. William Jackson and Mr. Douglas Stocks (parents of Angus Jackson ’09 and Conrad McGee-Stocks ’08). The ‘HSC Trojans’ double was named in honour of the HSC Parents’ Guild and the College. Sylvia Griffin, the longest serving Hamilton high school rowing coach, was also honoured, when another quad was named ‘The Griffin’ to commemorate her 24 years of service.
