Reading in the Forest
This year more than 280 students from JK to Grade 8 participated in the Forest of Reading Program™ sponsored by the Ontario Library Association. The HSC Library offered titles from the Blue Spruce, Silver Birch Express, Silver Birch Fiction and Silver Birch Non-Fiction programs. All eligible readers had a voting day where they were invited to dine and vote in the library during their scheduled lunch period.
HSC’s favourites were sent to Toronto in early May to add to the nearly 250,000 votes that were collected from across the province of Ontario. The Official Award winners were announced during the Festival of Trees™ Celebration at the end of May at the Harbourfront Centre in Toronto.
This is a fantastic program that exposes children to Canadian literature from various genres while promoting reading at all levels.
Thank you to all who read with us!!
