To the Hillfield Strathallan College Community:
 
Dr. Tom Matthews, our Headmaster for the past seven years, has advised me that he will be resigning from his position with us at the end of the current academic year in June 2010.
 
Building on his dedicated and successful leadership at HSC, Tom will be accepting a new challenge as Headmaster of St. George's School in Vancouver, British Columbia.  As a member of the Board of Governors, and as a parent, I have had the distinct privilege of working closely with Tom for over seven years; we are all fortunate to have benefited from a sound, collaborative and visionary direction during his time at Hillfield Strathallan College. 
 
The financial stability and positive public profile that the College enjoys today is due, in no small measure, to Tom's exemplary execution of our strategic plans and our fundraising initiatives. Those plans also ensured that a hand-picked senior Management team is in place at HSC, which will allow for continuity and stability for the organization.   This team will work alongside the Board of Governors, the Faculty and the Administrative Staff in continuing to deliver the quality educational environment that has made HSC one of the finest independent schools in the country.  We have never been stronger, and the Board is confident that Tom's continued leadership over the remainder of his time as Headmaster will ensure another successful year for all of our Students, Faculty, Staff and Parents.
 
For Tom and his family this will be an opportunity for them to return to British Columbia, where their children grew up, and for Tom to return to a boy's school having begun his career at Upper Canada College.  In the months remaining until Tom and his family take up the next stage of their lives there will be many opportunities of celebrating his extraordinary successes and commitment to Hillfield Strathallan College.
 
The Board of Governors will shortly commence the process for the selection of a new leader for the College, and we have every expectation that there will be a smooth transition. We assure you that we are committed to finding a leader who shares the mission, traditions and culture of our School, and we look forward to announcing Tom's successor later in the school year.
