Mina Kazemi has been selected as one of seven finalists for the Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers. The Investiture Ceremony and Luncheon will take place on Monday, April 20, 2009. The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, along with The Honourable Michael Chan, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, will preside over the ceremony.

The Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers was created in 1998 to recognize the outstanding contributions of young people to improving the quality of life in Ontario and internationally through volunteer activities.

Mina has already accumulated over 340 service hours and is the leader of the English Conversation Circle with SISO, an active member of the Social Action Committee and involved in a variety of extracurricular activities at the College. She is currently working on her silver medal for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Program.

The Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers is presented to young people who contribute significant time and service without pay to charity, not-for-profit organizations or an individual; have made a sustained and innovative contribution in the community, demonstrating leadership, initiative, perseverance, originality, as well as the promise of long-term improvement of greater public awareness of the community activity; have proven to be a role model attracting others to volunteering and have inspired and helped peers and the community as a whole to better understand and appreciate the importance of volunteering.
