The Unfinished Tour

On a very chilly Saturday afternoon in April, five Grade 7 students volunteered to test out a pilot program for young writers at HSC. The students were taken to three locations:  Pier 4 @ Hamilton Harbour Front, Jackson Square & Hamilton Farmers’ Market and finally, Dundurn Castle.  At each location the students were given specific prompts to help to inspire their writing.  Completing pieces on the tour was not the goal (though some did).  The aim was to instil a passion for writing and to create a collection of ideas to be completed at another time.

The tour was a great success. The students had lots of fun and wrote some interesting pieces.  The exciting part is that, as a result, we hope to incorporate tours into the regular English program in the Middle School next year.
