Competitive Team Tryouts

At the beginning of each season all interested students will have an opportunity to be a member of our competitive teams.  Within each of our schools, tryout dates will be announced, a notice sent home to parents and a notice is posted on the College’s website.

As each team is chosen, the athletes will be given a game schedule.  Games are posted to the Athletics website and updated daily.  Occasionally, last minute changes to the game schedule will occur.  The website is the best source to observe these changes. 

All practices are held between 3:45 pm – 4:45 pm.  Practice days may vary depending on which day of the week competitive games are scheduled.  Mondays and Wednesdays are the primary competition days of the week, with Saturday being the second most popular competition day. 

To ensure safety and reasonable playing time, each competitive team is allocated a maximum number of players.

Our teaching staff are also qualified coaches.  HSC coaches are certified through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).

Uniforms
All team members will require a uniform. In most cases the uniform top and/or bottom are provided by the College for the following sports: Basketball, Softball, Field Hockey, and Volleyball. In some cases the uniform “bottom” will be provided and a charge will apply which will be billed to the student’s account.

Physical Education and Health Education Uniforms
There is a specific gym kit required by all schools at HSC for Physical Education classes. 

Age Restrictions
All teams have age restrictions. For example, when a team is referred to “U13”, all players must be under 13 as of December 31st of the start of the school calendar year.

Some teams also allow a grade requirement:
Grade 7 is U13 or in Grade 7
Grade 8 is U14 or in Grade 8

The National (CAIS) program can vary from our Ontario requirements. If your son/daughter is being considered for a national touring team, a separate package is provided with details of this program.
