Peer Mediation
Our Grade 4 students are trained as Peer Mediators to assist the recess duty teachers. Peer Mediation helps to establish a sense of responsibility in students and fosters a sense of caring for others. The Peer Mediators:
- model acceptable play behaviour
- listen to and help articulate disputes
- help the younger students to solve conflict through discussion
- build confidence and self-esteem
Intellectual Development
Our program is designed to ensure the acquisition of strong skills in literacy, mathematics and science and technology.
Literacy
Each Junior student:
- will be able to read and write competently and comprehensively
- will be exposed to a wide variety of literature (both fiction and non-fiction)
- will be encouraged to develop a love for the written word
Mathematics
Each Junior student will be able:
- to develop number sense
- to develop & understand patterns
- to problem solve
- to connect mathematics to the world around them and confidently use these skills in their everyday life
Science and Technology
Each Junior student is encouraged:
- to develop his/her problem-solving skills through hands-on experience
- to develop a curiosity for the world around him/her
- develop a competency in a wide range of computer skills
