Rise and Shine Breakfast Press Conference Kicks Off Great Event to Raise Money
for City Kidz

Upcoming Events

On Wednesday, January 21, 2009, the College hosted a press conference to promote the upcoming Rise & Shine for City Kidz Leadership Breakfast, hosted by HSC and presented by title sponsor Tim Hortons.

The event, to be held on March 6, aims to raise $25,000 in order to allow City Kidz to purchase two more buses to expand its Saturday activity program. The buses will provide free transportation for as many as 200 more children so they can attend the Sherman Playhouse Theatre in Hamilton’s inner city.
City Kidz is a local charitable organization providing children from 6 to 12 with games and songs in a safe, fun and interactive environment, teaching them about good life decisions. It tries to lay the foundation and attitude in young kids to enable them to reach their potential.

It has 800 children at a time attending programs each Saturday. It also provides weekly home visits to 1,500 children to get to know each child in the Saturday program on a personal level and build friendships and to show them someone cares. Read More!

Bravo! Bravissimo! A Crescendo of Applause!
On a cold January evening, the Artsplex was overflowing with over 400 people who attended the second concert of the’08-’09 Crescendo Series featuring The Tokyo String Quartet.

As the world-renowned Tokyo String Quartet embark on their 40th anniversary of the group’s founding, they gave the audience the gift of a brilliantly performed program of Beethoven, Bartok and Mendelssohn.

It was a privilege to welcome back HSC Alumni and first violinist, Martin Beaver.  Martin was a student at HSC from 1977-1981.  It was a family event with Martin’s parents and former HSC teachers, John and Jean Beaver in attendance.

The quartet performed on beautiful 17th and 18th century Stradivarius instruments called the “Paganini Quartet”.  The Tokyo treated the audience to a very informative history of their individual instruments.

In the spirit of mentorship, Wesley Khurana, HSC’s current Arts Scholarship recipient, had the unique opportunity to have a master violin class with Martin Beaver.

A special thank you to our evening partner, Paul Jaggard of Vincero Capital Management.  Crescendo Concerts appreciates the continued support of all of our generous sponsors, advertisers and the HSC community.

The Crescendo Concert Series helps fund HSC’s unique Arts Scholarship which is designed to attract outstanding high school age students.

The magic will continue at Crescendo’s final concert of the season featuring Jamie Sommerville & Friends on Friday May 8, 2009. For tickets go to www.hsc.on.ca/crescendo  or call 905-389-1367, ext. 201

A Drop of Empathy - A Flow of Hope

Founded in 1996 by HSC alumnus Colin Glassco, the Colin Glassco Charitable Foundation provides funding for numerous projects ranging from surgery, school supplies and infrastructure support for villages in Zambia. A priority in Mr. Glassco’s work is the drilling of clean water wells. The wells provide Zambian children with water free of Trachoma, a bacterial disease that is responsible for an infection that leads to blindness.

As a College-wide initiative, we are selling water bottles to raise funds in support of the Colin Glassco Charitable Foundation’s work. The stainless steel water bottles, emblazoned with the HSC crest, are environmentally friendly and socially responsible. As we protect our ecology with their use, we remember that water is a precious commodity in our world and that our support can have a lasting impact on the lives of many children.

Please assist us as we raise both funds and awareness. Bottles are available through order forms or at the Campus Store for $15. Please contact Heather Rodriguez at 905-389-1367, ext. 168 or at heather.rodriguez@hsc.on.ca if you have any questions.
