HSC Academic Year Closing Events

The 2009/10 academic year drew to a close last evening with the Headmaster’s Dinner held in recognition of this year’s retirees, Marv Curry, Carol-Ann McNeil, Claudia Stockdale and Nancy Wands, as well as the faculty and staff of HSC for their dedication and commitment. It was also an opportunity for the HSC community to bid the Matthews’ Family a fond farewell.  This special evening was marked by heartfelt speeches honouring the retirees and Dr. Matthews. Calum Matthews delivered a moving address on behalf of his father, Tom. The evening concluded with the official unveiling of Dr. Matthews’ portrait which will be installed in Lawson Hall with the other Headmasters and Headmistresses. Click here to view a photo gallery.

Each of the four schools also held their respective Graduation and Closing Ceremonies earlier this month. Click on the links below to access the various photo galleries and commencement speeches.

Max Rotman Humanitarian Youth Award

Five HSC students were among the fifty students from Hamilton and surrounding areas honoured on June 3, 2010 in Anshe Sholom Temple in Hamilton. In a moving ceremony the students were recognized for their volunteer services in the area as well as distant parts of the world. The volunteering focus for our students’ recognition this year was working with children and youth. The award represents what Max Rotman, who served as the JCC’s physical Education Director and co-director of Camp Kadima, endeavoured to instill to the youth of the community.

The HSC honourees were Brandon Clark, Sharaya Jones, Deborah Liendo Kaufman, Megan MacCuish and Mannat Malik.

Congratulations!

Middle School Sports Update

Hillfield Strathallan College was honoured to host the U14 Girls Soccer for Division 1 Championship on Wednesday, May 26, 2010. It was an extremely hot afternoon but all the teams played very well and made it an exciting tournament.

In the semi-finals HSC won defeated VIllanova, and DeLaSalle defeated St. Mildred’s Lightborn School. In the championship game HSC prevailed over DeLeSalle winning 4 to 1. A great game was played by both teams.

Congratulations!

On the same day the U11 Boys’ Track and Field Team won their divisional plaque at the CISAA and the HSC Middle School track team placed second overall out of 26 schools. Click here to see photos of the U11, U12, U13 and U14 Track and Field teams.

In other news, the U14 Boys’ Rugby Team finished second in their championship.

14th Annual HSC Golf Classic

Despite a few challenges from Mother Nature, the 14th Annual HSC Golf Classic in support of the College’s Scholarships and Awards program was a tremendous success. The day would not have been possible without the many key sponsors, among them, our Platinum Sponsor, Jigsaw Advertising, our Gold Sponsor, Cooper Construction, our Silver Sponsor Moriyama & Teshima Architects, our Car Sponsor, Mercedes-Benz of Burlington and our Lunch Sponsor Michelangelo Event Venue & Conference Center. To view a listing of our other wonderful sponsors please click here.

Many new details were added to this year’s tournament including a team challenge which consisted of student volunteers on each hole greeting golfers with HSC trivia. There were also 18 hole experiences which included games, prizes, tasting, and gifts. The new dinner format ensured the day was wrapped quickly but in a most relaxed and enjoyable way.
