Laure Kominar returns to Tanzania to challenge, create and, contribute

This summer Laure Kominar, HSC’s Elementary Montessori Directress, returned to Tanzania to help children in need. Together with another Montessori educator, she spent a week travelling by foot, bike, piki-piki (motorcycle) and truck to 24 village schools to observe the teachers she had help trained on her previous visit in 2008. For the next ten days they conducted an intensive Montessori course with 35 adults in a school in Kujunjumele.

When she was asked to write about her summer experiences, she began wondering if perhaps she should have an answer for “those who have asked why I chose to go to Africa in the first place, and also why I returned?”  Laure writes, “I believe that my best answer for ‘why?’ came to me through one of Dr. Martin Luther King’s messages.  I went to Tanzania because ‘we are all a part of the fabric of humanity.’”
