PBL Testimonials

If you are looking for Gold Standard PBL Training in Canada, Hillfield Strathallan College is the place to come in August. The location is perfect, the organization impeccable, the instructors top notch, and the experience to connect and collaborate with other passionate educators was invaluable and memorable. I will strongly encourage fellow teachers to attend these workshops, and I plan to be back for PBL 201.

Roger Hospedales, Father McGivney Catholic Academy - Dept. Head of ELL

I attended the PBL 101 at HSC in the summer of 2017; it was fantastic!  I have been doing some “projects” with my Grade 8 and 11 Mathematics classes for a few years, and it was wonderful to develop these using the essential elements of “gold standard PBL”.  You have the time to get input from a variety of educators, and the advice was amazing from both my subject area colleagues, and non-subject area colleagues.  In fact, in one of the “tuning protocol” activities the advice from some Modern Language Teachers really resonated and shaped the changes to improve my mathematics project.  The gold standard PBL 101 PD is superb, offering you the time, tools, strategies, and providing you with the opportunity to develop your PBL to the next level.  The facilitators are excellent, and you have the time to actually develop and work on your projects.  Highly recommended, and hopefully I will be attending the “PBL-201” in in the summer of 2018!

PBL Canada was an invaluable opportunity to learn from the renowned Buck Institute and alongside passionate, progressive educators. I picked up many strategies to refine my projects toward the “gold standard”, and was inspired to learn about the PBL inroads in a wide array of schools. Thanks to the Institute and the lengthy chats with colleagues who also attended, we began this school year with new ideas to support PBL throughout the school. The impact has been substantial. And we now have a long line up of other teachers who are planning to attend this summer!

The PBL institute 2017 was an inspiring, collaborating and enjoyable learning experience. It reaffirmed that a lot of what we were already doing was on track, while giving us excellent ideas to tweak our process. We came away with a comprehensive understanding of Gold Standard PBL, a host of connections and many teaching strategies to add to our PBL arsenal.

Attending the PBL Canada Institute last August with a team of teachers from our Middle School was an invigorating experience. While those who attended demonstrated a passion for project based teaching and learning, the specifics that came from enrolling in PBL 101 and PBL Leadership groups were profound. The learning which we were engaged in for the 3 days inspired us to share the core principals and gold standards of project based learning with our faculty, and most importantly, our students. The methodology has been an ongoing piece of professional development for our school and has helped to shape our conversations on best practices for engaging student learning.

PBL Leadership was by far one of the best PD experiences for me as Principal. PBL Leadership taught and helped us to reflect on our leadership competencies to best match our support of teachers in helping to bring them to a level of professional reflection and instructional practice that supports teaching students for the 21st century skills. It was interactive and rewarding to be able to network with colleagues from a broad spectrum of educational experiences and settings.
PBL Leadership gave me as Principal access to resources and strategies to help facilitate and build leadership capacity among my school staff for the new school year. I was successfully able to implement a comprehensive strategic year plan immediately after PBL Leadership which was timely and purposeful in supporting our school improvement plan goals for the coming school year.
I highly recommend PBL Leadership for any administrator wanting to learn more about PBL and specifically learn how to empower others within a school organization in adopting, practicing and making PBL come to life and increasing student engagement levels to improve student achievement.
My team of teachers who attended the PBL Canada Institute with me participated in PBL 101. They were inspired, energized and took off during the new school year with their newly acquired instructional knowledge and skill set to implement PBL in their classrooms and build teacher capacity within our school organization.
Their experience as educators following PBL 101 was so impactful to their teaching practice to improve student achievement that they have registered for PBL 201 this coming summer. As Principal having completed PBL Leadership, I too will join my team taking PBL 201 to continue our professional learning and dialogue in order to enhance our instructional practice and positively influence our student engagement and achievement levels.
