Supporting Documentation

Below you will find samples of the language used in communications with our current parents when we first embarked on our strategic planning consultation process in 2014. Also included is a link to the 2013 Parent Survey: Summary of Findings document.

External Trends

As part of the process, we will examine the key trends that may influence our future. Here are some examples of the trends that may inform our discussions:
  • Rapidly-evolving digital environment - Advances in technology enable new ways to learn, collaborate and communicate.
  • Emerging research on education drives new approaches to how children learn and the skills they will need to excel in the 21st century.
  • Globalism is driving the need for a new level of international awareness and new skills to adapt and be global citizens.
  • Growing diversity of the Hamilton area: The make-up of our broader community is changing. Many independent schools are considering how to be more inclusive of the diversity of the broader community.
  • Growing pressures on families - including the time crunch for parents, competing demands for precious time, busy schedules for students created by outside demands as well as school-related demands.
  • Changing and uncertain economic conditions have an impact on tuition affordability and the increased importance of building a culture of philanthropy.
  • Growing interest in partnerships that provide new ways to connect locally and globally to enhance education.
  • These are just some of the trends we will consider as we plan for the next five years. We would like to hear your views on the trends that you believe may impact the future of the College.

Questions for Community Input

In the upcoming consultation process, we would like to hear your views on questions in the following areas:
  • What makes this a special and unique school – what are the differentiating strengths of HSC today?
  • What challenges must we address over the next five years?
  • What trends locally and globally should we consider as we develop plans for our future?
  • What critical attributes will an HSC grad need in the future? Imagine HSC in the future (2020 and beyond)
  • How should the HSC of the future be different from the HSC of today?
  • If you could make one change to the School, what would it be?
  • What would you not want to see change?
  • Given our current state and your long-term vision, what specific goals should guide our work over the next five years? Why?
