A House for All

Find a Family in Your House

HSC is a big place. Our House System connects students through common goals and a shared sense of identity. One of HSC’s oldest and most successful traditions, Houses offer your child a family within a family, a place where students of all ages come together to build lasting friendships, develop leadership skills, and celebrate shared achievements.

A Legacy of Connection and Community

Imagine your child finding an instant connection, a place where they feel known and valued. That’s the power of the HSC House System. Every student is welcomed into one of four distinct Houses: Cedar-More, Birch-Earn, Pine-Yre, or Maple-Tay. Each House, with its own vibrant colour and unique name inspired by Canadian trees and Scottish rivers (a nod to our founders), becomes a home away from home. Families are united across generations within the same House, creating a unique bond that strengthens through the years.

Mentorship, Activities, and Friendly Competition

Our House System provides a continuum of mentorship, special activities, service opportunities, and friendly competition. From the moment your child is sorted into their House, they become part of a supportive network guided by dedicated staff members and student House officials. In Middle School, student Co-Captains are elected by their peers and faculty, fostering leadership and responsibility. Throughout the year, students earn points for their House through academic achievements and participation in various activities, building camaraderie and a shared sense of accomplishment. We recognize and celebrate these achievements with awards and prizes, rewarding the Houses that contribute most significantly to College life.

More Than Just Points: Building Character and Lifelong Memories

The House System is about more than just winning points; it’s about building character, fostering teamwork, and creating lifelong memories. Students learn to support each other, celebrate successes, and navigate challenges together. They develop leadership skills, learn the value of service, and discover the joy of being part of something bigger than themselves.

Why the HSC House System Matters

At HSC, we believe the House System is a cornerstone of our community, enriching the student experience and creating a strong foundation for success. It provides a built-in support system and a sense of belonging from day one, unites families across generations, and offers opportunities for students to develop leadership skills through roles like House Captain. It fosters teamwork, sportsmanship, and a sense of responsibility, and creates lasting memories through special events, competitions, and shared achievements.

We invite you to experience the warmth and camaraderie of our Houses and discover how they can become an integral part of your child’s HSC journey.
