  • Athletic Therapist

    About Hillfield Strathallan College
     
    Founded in 1901, Hillfield Strathallan College (HSC) offers a seamless academic journey from 18 months to 18 years. Located on a 50-acre campus on Hamilton's West Mountain, HSC provides a unique educational pathway for students through four school offerings: Junior, Montessori, Middle and Senior. HSC prepares students to live with purpose – to understand their world, inspire, lead, act, and make a difference in their own unique ways.

    Reporting to the Manager, Health Services, the Athletic Therapist (AT) helps students prevent injuries and assesses and cares for musculoskeletal disorders and injuries (muscle, bones, joints) to support the students' physical capabilities and active lifestyles. The AT provides emergency, on-field and clinical care for musculoskeletal injuries for students. The goal is to facilitate a safe return to participation in sport and recreational activities by the student. This position works school days from 11:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and on occasional weekends and evenings for school events.  

    • Communicate with students regarding clinic appointments, home programs, follow-up regarding injuries, etc.
    • Liaise and communicate regularly with the Manager of Health Services and school registered nurses regarding musculoskeletal injuries. 
    • Secure and maintain accurate, up-to-date and complete medical documentation for all athletes receiving care.
    • Ensure all medical documentation is recorded in a timely manner at the point of care.
    • Triage all injured athletes and make recommendations and referrals to specialized medical personnel as appropriate.
    • Communicate with parents and resolve questions or concerns related to athletic injuries.
    • Provide education and PD opportunities and act as a resource for coaches 
    • Communicate regularly with coaches regarding the injury status of their athletes
    • Liaise and communicate regularly with the Athletic Director and Management of Health Services regarding sports schedules, tournaments and College-wide events.
    • Communicate with ATs, coaches or staff at other schools regarding the needs of our injured athletes at their locations, etc.
    • Provide Athletic Therapy field coverage for games, playoffs, and tournaments as required.
    • Administrative duties for additional tournament coverage, creating AT coverage schedule, hiring of ATs for additional coverage (tournaments, travelling teams, etc.)
    • Ability to respond quickly to injuries during games, thoroughly assess and determine the student’s suitability to safely return to play 
    • Organize and maintain the Athletic Injuries Clinic and therapy equipment
    • Purchase, inventory and store required clinic supplies and equipment
    • Prepare Team Binders (or equivalent) for high-intensity sports (Hockey, Soccer, Rugby) with the athletes’ Emergency Medical Contact Cards and Emergency Response Protocols in collaboration with the Manager of Health Services
    • Sign out and collect the Team Binders from the respective coaches at the end of the season and ensure the Emergency Medical Contact Cards are destroyed (confidential shredding)
    • Maintain the Athletic Injuries Clinic bulletin board
    • Create strength and conditioning routines for teams and individual athletes 
    • Collaborate with Athletic Director and Manager of Health Services on concussion awareness, Rowan’s Law Day, injury prevention, wellness initiatives and promotion of physical activity across the College
    • Assist with special events – CAIS, meets, tournaments, x-country runs, etc.
    • Ensure the health & safety of all stakeholders and students
    • Attend staff meetings as required

    The successful candidate will have a recognized diploma or degree in Athletic Therapy accredited by the Canadian Athletic Therapists’ Association (CATA) and be a member in good standing of CATA. They will have strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in stressful situations.

  • Athletics Assistant

    Athletics Assistant

    The Athletics Assistant is a permanent part-time position in the Athletics Department reporting to the Athletic Director. This position works on school days from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. 
    Under the direction of the Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director:

    • Practice/Gameday/Tournament management including meeting buses, clearing buses, supporting the enforcement of proper parking by visiting teams, escorting teams, gym set up and take down and other tasks as able and assigned
    • Troubleshooting during games and tournaments, clocks, equipment, etc.
    • Working with the Athletic Prefect in managing and training scorekeepers
    • Liaison with Grounds/Maintenance for field set up for each season and game day management-flagging fields, checking nets
    • Disbursement/collection of uniforms and inflatables for each season/each team
    • Inventory of equipment, inflatable and uniforms, preparing and organizing docs to track
    • Preparing year-end orders for uniforms, inflatables, equipment
    • Maintaining/inspection of equipment-VB systems, game clocks
    • Able to work tournaments/Homecoming on weekends/off hours
    • Learning the membership of CISAA ADs for communications/maintaining CISAA website for leagues we convene. U10 BB, U13 Boys Soccer etc.
    • Cover practices, games, duties, and intramurals in emergencies
    • Assist at away events, track/swim meets, Snowboard, Alpine, and wrestling meets where two coaches are needed, or coaches are responsible for timing/running events.
    • Demonstrate initiative and proactively address safety concerns involving students, staff, visitors, and/or maintenance issues involving equipment and facilities.
    • Communicate and collaborate with athletics, physical education, and HSC staff professionally and proactively to support the HSC Mission, Guiding Principles, and Ideals.

    Work Schedule:
    • Monday to Friday 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. with the flexibility to attend tournaments/work Saturdays when needed
    • Works school days

    The successful candidate will have previous experience supporting athletic events and activities. Knowledge of various sports and required setups and the ability to effectively communicate with refs, students and the broader HSC Community.

  • Early Childhood Educators (Supply Positions)

    Position Overview: 
     
    The supply Early Childhood Educator will be available for daily and long term assignments. They will collaborate with classroom teachers and assist in delivering a program that enhances children’s cognitive, physical, social, spiritual and emotional development. 

    Qualifications:
    • Two year community college Early Childhood Education Diploma, with experience in a childcare or educational setting;
    • Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators;
    • Knowledge of Ministry of Education full-day early learning kindergarten program;
    • Experience in planning and implementing age-appropriate programs;
    • Knowledge of related legislation and pertinent Board policies and directives such as, but not limited to Administration of Medication and/or Special Services;
    • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with children, parents, staff and the general public;
    • Strong organizational and management skills;
    • Demonstrate knowledge of classroom management;
    • One year of experience as an ECE in a childcare centre and Early Learning Program is preferred; however, new graduates are welcome to apply;

  • Learning Services Teacher

    Position Overview:
     
    The Learning Services Teacher is confident in supporting a range of students with Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) through a strengths-based approach to develop their self-advocacy skills and access to the curriculum. They help students and their families demystify medical or disability documentation and accommodations. They are a resource and advocate for faculty and parents and work closely with all members of the Student Success Team. They are energized by the multi-faceted, challenging nature of the role and maintain a supportive, genuine, informative, and approachable demeanour. They are also responsible for transition support, professional development,  and teaching Learning Strategies courses in the Senior School. 

    Responsibilities:
    • Develop an understanding of the learning profiles and needs of the Senior school students at Hillfield Strathallan College.
    • Assist students in developing appropriate learning strategies to ensure their success; provide individualized learning support to students, as required.
    • Evaluate students' progress and discuss progress results with students, parents, classroom teachers, school VPs, and principals as appropriate.
    • Support students and their families in understanding our learners' learning differences and needs.
    • Assist teachers in implementing differentiated instruction, Universal Design strategies and accommodations to meet specific learning needs; build capacity within the Senior School with in-class support of our subject-specialist teachers
    • Liaise with the Principal/Grade level Vice-Principals and the Student Success Team to ensure consistency in policy practice and clarity in the support continuum across the College.
    • Maintain documentation and records of students, ensuring a high level of confidentiality. 
    • Collaborate and contribute as a member of the weekly Learning Services meetings and participate in the weekly Senior School Intervention team meetings. 
    • Attend faculty meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops, may assist in developing course materials and curriculum content, and prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help.
    • Integrate new developments, research findings and best practices into ongoing programs and new initiatives.
    • Contribute to creating  a positive, supportive and welcoming environment for students with ILPs
    • Possess the ability to create Individual Learning Plans, write executive summaries, and the ability to analyze psychoeducational assessments is required.
    • Have capacity to address the needs of the 21st-century learners.
    • Teach at least two lines of GLE.
    • Actively participate in the life of the school and other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications 
     
    Education and Designation: 
    • University degree
    • Additional qualifications: Special Education Parts 1 and 2 are required 
    • A Special Education Specialist designation would be an asset 
    • Ontario Teacher’s Certificate (OCT or equivalent) - qualifications in intermediate/senior division
    • Knowledge of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma requirements and curricula is essential
    • Knowledge of Ontario Ministry of Education policies and procedures related to Special Education
    Experience: 
    • Experience teaching the Learning Strategies curriculum is required 
    • Experience as a special education teacher at a senior school level (preferred) 
    • Experience reading and interpreting psychoeducational assessment reports 
    • Experience writing and implementing IEPs and formal written student success plans
    • Demonstrate effective  verbal, written, and interpersonal communication and collaboration skills
    • Demonstrate strong skills in partnering with families and paraprofessionals 
    • Vast amounts of empathy and experience navigating sensitive and difficult conversations

  • Part-time Kitchen Staff

    We are currently recruiting kitchen staff to work school days from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

    Kitchen Staff Position Overview:

    Reporting to the Manager of Food Services, the kitchen staff will be responsible for preparing meals, unpacking and stocking supplies, cleaning up, and other related duties as assigned.   • School Bus Drivers

    School Bus Driver Position Overview:

    We are currently recruiting for bus drivers in our transportation department. It is an hourly position with a five hour daily average. Charter work is also available. Uniforms will be provided. Drivers earn $22.19 per hour. Benefits provided after 3 month probation.

    • Have at least three years of driving experience

    The Social Worker works closely with staff, families, and community partners to provide for our students' physical and emotional needs during school days at Hillfield Strathallan College and to ensure students are set up to perform their best academically. The Social Worker assists students in resolving personal, emotional, and social matters affecting their overall health, wellbeing, and ability to learn effectively. The position will primarily support students in Grades 9 to 12; however, it will work collaboratively with the rest of the wellbeing team to ensure overall student support from PK through to Grade 12. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Provide social-emotional counselling to students;
    • Work alongside the College’s guidance, learning resources and health services team members to provide overall support to students;
    • Connect students and families with professional support both in and outside of school;
    • Effectively relate to and communicate with children, parents, and professionals;
    • Intervene with students to decrease risk factors and to increase the presence of protective factors;
    • Document and maintain records of services provided to each student as required by licensing standards, provincial legislation, and school policies; and
    • Develops and/or coordinates educational workshops, in-service training and professional development for HSC Community  
    • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND ATTRIBUTES OF OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
    • Member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW) or equivalent;
    • Master’s Degree in Social Work or equivalent;
