    About Hillfield Strathallan College
     
    Founded in 1901, Hillfield Strathallan College (HSC) offers a seamless academic journey from 18 months to 18 years. Located on a 50-acre campus on Hamilton's West Mountain, HSC provides a unique educational pathway for students through four school offerings: Junior, Montessori, Middle and Senior. HSC prepares students to live with purpose – to understand their world, inspire, lead, act and make a difference in their own unique ways.
     
    Director of Arts Position Overview:

    Working closely with the Academic Team, the Director of Arts is responsible for and coordinates all co-curricular arts activities in the College. Co-curricular activities include drama, visual arts and musical productions, Chapel, Carol Service, Remembrance Day Ceremony, Literary Events, Concerts and any other production related to the Arts. The position also works cooperatively with administration to promote and enhance vertical alignment of arts (music and drama) curriculum throughout the College. 
     
    Responsibilities
     
    • Champions the arts throughout the College, including fostering enthusiasm for arts courses; sparks passion and ongoing student engagement in the music program.
    • Ensures timely and continual communication with the Principals when initiating any new programs. Attends academic team meetings when required  to collaborate on initiatives and proposals related to the arts program
    • Updates and supports the faculty within the instructional area to develop and grow the department 
    • Provides effective leadership, including developing and mentoring faculty
    • Creates and supports a high-quality academic culture that emphasizes collegiality, engagement and innovation within the  music faculty
    • Organizes music for Friday Chapel and other community assemblies
    • Organizes readers and readings for Chapel from week to week
    • Organizes special Chapels: Prefect Installation;  Remembrance Day Service; Carol Service Prioritizes, supervises and arranges all Artsplex (and other dedicated arts spaces) booking requests. This involves coordinating all performances, Senior Drama and Musical, Middle School Musical, Junior Musical, Primary Play and Montessori Concerts. Help arrange Arts Nights in Junior, Middle and Senior Schools 
    • Coordinates all technical requirements around arts productions/events 
    • Manages Arts facilities and resource needs for the areas, including development of operational and capital budgets to support these facilities
    • Oversees the Choir Director and arrange performances and competitions
    • Coordinates and inventory student artwork donated to the College 
    • Ensures pianos are tuned each academic year
    • Hires private music tutors for the College
    • Represents the College at related Committee meetings, contribute when possible, arrange all transportation etc., for rehearsals and performances off-campus, including weekend events
    • Maintains affiliation with the Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and acts as a liaison between the orchestra and the College
    • Works collaboratively with Manager, Auxiliary Programs to promote theatre rentals and events with respect to both internal HSC Community arts events as well as developing relationships with existing and new facility partners
    • Prepares and administer budgets relating to all concerts, plays, etc., and decide on spending priorities as the need arises
    • Liaises with the Finance Office with respect to management of cash inflows/outflows as they pertain to concerts, plays, etc.
    • Supervises the Arts Scholar selection process, with the Director of Admissions  
    • Helps arrange other special event shows 
    • Regular full-time HSC faculty member
    • Has 3/6 course load with extra-curricular responsibilities
    • Other related duties as assigned
     
    Qualifications
     
    • Masters degree preferred in Music, Arts and/or Drama. 
    • Proven teaching and administration experience with significant knowledge of arts programs 
    • Professional and exhibition experience are an asset
    • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
    • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management
    • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
    • Skill in the use of personal computers, related software applications and audio-visual equipment

  • Supply Teachers

    We are very proud of our long tradition of teaching excellence and of our success in preparing young people to enter the academic program and university of their choice.     We are seeking passionate and committed teachers to join our faculty for the 2020-2021 academic year as occasional teaching staff. 
     
    The successful candidates will have previous experience teaching; possess an Ontario Teachers’ Certificate or equivalency; strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a passion for education. They also are required to participate in the co-curricular life of the College, possess up-to-date skills in the area of technology, and embrace a model of student-centred learning.

    • Grounds & Maintenance - Summer Staff

      Hillfield Strathallan College (HSC) is currently recruiting for Grounds and Maintenance - Summer Staff.
       
      We are currently recruiting for summer students to work as general labourers and/or work in our grounds area. The position will start July 1, 2021 and go to August 31, 2021. Possibility of starting in May for university students. The summer student(s) will assist the maintenance/grounds staff on summer projects including, but not limited to, landscaping, painting, cleaning and minor repairs. Please note that safety shoes are required.
       
      The period of employment is from July 1, 2021 to August 31, 2021, with no eligibility for vacation.
       
       
      Qualifications
       
      The successful candidate should have:
       
      • A warm, outgoing personality with a willingness to learn.
      • A comfort level with tools and working outdoors
      • Experience in general labour and landscaping is beneficial
